Useful Information
During the course of our activities in assessing the
wheelchair needs of our clients, we come across a lot
of situations where vehicles do not meet the needs of
the family. Sometimes this is because the needs of
the user changes. Sometimes it is because
unsuitable advice has been given.
Based on personal experience, we always
recommend that wheelchair and buggy users choose
a wheelchair accessible vehicle as soon as possible.
We decided to produce a guide which may help
families to assess their own needs before making an
unsuitable choice
Motability
Caring for a child in a Hip Spica
Following Hip Surgery or an accident where the Pelvis has
been broken or a hip dislocated, it is quite normal for the
patient to be encased in plaster for 4-8 weeks to secure a
good orthopaedic outcome.
Nothing can prepare you for the first sight of your child in this
condition and you realise that life is going to change drastically
over this time. It also seems strange that, with modern
technology making enormous advances, we still have to resort
to this primitive method of restricting limb movement.
Please feel free to share any good ideas with us - we will add
them to the guide.
